WHY "THE COOL CHURCH"?

You may be aware that the Tucson Community Church is also referred to as “the cool church” – you may wonder, “Why the cool church”? There are actually a number of reasons for this.

1) First of all, we didn't name ourselves “the cool church” – Tucson did. TCC has always done a tremendous amount of TV, radio and print advertising and because of this, is very well known throughout the city. In the early years of the church when Pastor David would be out on the street or at a mall doing a commercial shoot, people who come up and say, “Hey, you're the guy are from the cool church!” They'd just say, “OK” and be glad they felt that way – that's where the name started.

2) In light of the statistical evidence that shows most churches across our nation are dying, we were THRILLED that the people in Tucson would actually think to put the words “church” and “cool” in the same sentence! You have to admit, that's a pretty great “rep” to have.

3) At TCC, we think God is “way cool”. Because God is so often poorly represented by religious groups, He can seem otherwise – but that's not God. When we really take the time to accurately understand God, we see how cool He really is – we do that at TCC, so “the cool church” makes sense.

4) God's principles that we have in the Bible are cool. It's not uncommon for people to think that since we're “the cool church”, we ignore sin – that we must be “cool” because we don't stand for anything – yet the very OPPOSITE is true. Sin – the stuff God says not to do in the Bible – TOTALLY messes up our lives and that's not cool at all! Even secular studies and statistics prove this. (Check out our “sex facts you need to know”) But if we're willing to admit that God is smarter than us and we'll follow God's principles in our life, life can become great AND we can end up having a significant and eternal impact on our world – obeying God is cool!

5) The fact that TCC is one of the fastest growing churches in America , is cutting edge in her approach, brings the church into the 21st century, is fun, interesting and has multiple locations in Tucson is cool – so we fit the title.

6) God uses TCC to change lives in some pretty remarkable ways – both in this world and for eternity – and this impacts people now AND future generations. That's very cool.

7) Finally, when we realized that the initials for the Tucson Community Church were TCC and that this fit The Cool Church too, it was a done deal.

Hi! My name is David McAllister, Senior Pastor and Founder of the Tucson Community Church. Thanks for checking out TCC on the web. When I moved to Tucson and started TCC from scratch over 15 years ago, I wanted to do church in a different way - in a way that would intrigue people who had no interest in God, Jesus, the Bible or church to begin with. To do that, TCC had to be different - and it is. We began with the belief that God expects us to use our minds if we are to relate to Him, so we provided intellectual, scientific and empirical evidence to prove God, Jesus and the Bible. We also take the time to answer the hard questions with real answers - questions like why bad things happen, even to good people. The amount of information that we provide just in our seminars is staggering and very helpful.

Even the way that we do church is different than what most people expect: We don't "pass the plate", single out new people or get all dressed up. All of our music is original, written by myself and another Pastor, with over 50 songs and 4 CDs completed. Our talented band plays at all 4 of our weekend services, and when you add our light show and projection screens to the mix, they have a very cool concert feel about them. My teaching is all memorized and practical to your life, using props, movie clips and lots of laughs to communicate God's truth.
