MEET THE PASTORS

The Founder and Senior Pastor of “the cool church” is David McAllister

David was born in 1960 in Lebanon, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis. He has one older brother, (Doug), and one younger sister(Destanie). He grew up in Indiana, Illinois and California. David’s father was, and is , a pastor in non-denominational churches. David went to Bible College at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO, graduating in 1982 with his Bachelor of Biblical Literature degree. David married Rhonda Stacy while still in college in 1980. David’s first full time ministry was the West Kalamazoo Christian Church in Kalamazoo, MI. David was the Senior Pastor for almost 10 years.

David’s wife Rhonda, unexpectedly passed away in 1991 of a brain tumor—David was left with their three young children. Everything changed in this difficult time. David lost his passion for the ministry in Michigan, but a renewed passion to start a church that would be different and dynamic, conforming more to what David saw in the New testament, resurfaced. This was the seed that grew into the Tucson Community Church—called “the cool church.”

David knew he could not pursue this new passion while his family was in such desperate need of healing. But then God provided a great gift to him in Kimberly. She brought healing, happiness and wholeness to the McAllister family again. She also brought David a partner in which to share this new vision. David and Kimberly now have 7 children : Jake, Stacy, Cameron, Bo, Shea, Duke and Darby.

David and Kimberly married and moved the family to Tucson to start TCC. It was a rough beginning, with the church’s first meeting in the movie theaters at Foothills Mall, then the center of the mall itself (not fun!), then DeGrazia Elementary School. Attendance was faltering at first, but David and his family stood strong in their vision and today it’s a reality, with our own beautiful facilities and average attendance of over 2,000 people each weekend and four locations!

The community it self has coined the phrase “the cool church”, apparently impressed by the unique (and very effective!) way David strives to reach people for God.
